85 RX7 Fuel regulator/relay problems

My dad and I have been trying to get my car to start all week, we changed plugs tested them, air filter, also cleaned up... and changed the fuel filter because it would not idle.

It will start, then quickly dies off and stalls. So i unhooked the fuel hose to the engine to check it out and get maybe 100mls on start up, then it cuts off.

From my research so far it seems to be either the regulator or the relay(which I cant find).

Any thoughts.

Some more information would help. Was the fuel filter plugged up? Have you tested fuel pressure? Has the car been sitting for a long time?

I would post this in the 1st gen section for more help.

the car HAs been sitting for like a year, so I figured maybe the gas turned to jelly. BUT it seems to pump fine when it wants to(at start up)

never checked the old filter internals and not sure how to test for fuel pressure, kinda a backyard project here.

nobody realizes this, but fuel has a shelf life of 90s days. after gasonline expires, it begins to separate and it begins to varnish the entire fuel delivery system.

You can check the pressure by putting your lips on the inlet side and blowing. If it blows through then it was ok. If you cant blow anything through then its clogged. Many times a clogged fuel filter will result in the pump going bad. It may have enough pressure to get it fired up for a second but thats it.

You could also have bad fuel. Like the previous poster stated the shelf life of fuel is 90 days. You can usually tell when fuel goes bad by the smell.

well i put new fuel in there it was basicly dry while sitting...

but as far as clogged lines, they are not, and the fuel filter is brand new thats why i was left with regulator/relay as my options...

but what your saying is that the pump COULD be gone and still pump enough fuel to fire it on start??
