85 gsl-se wont turnover

so my car has power and is getting gas i assume,i was just driving it,i think the starter might be dead.
the starter has grinded before on starts and also has stalled out before such as turing the key and it will just clunk and i just start it again and it will start but this time the starter will not ever try to work.
im not sure how i can check the starter or mabie it could be something diffrent.

Thing's i have done took starter out and reinstalled ,tryed jumping the car,
nether of these worked

Clean up the connections at both ends of both battery cables. Consider replacing them, because the originals are made of aluminum and are prone to internal corrosion.

Before I replaced mine, the starter behaved erratically; sometimes just spinning, sometimes a loud clunk, then after several tries it would work right and start the car. All better now.

bench test it, you could also take it to any local auto parts store, they usually have a tester, and will usually bench test it for free if you don't feel like doing it yourself
