I just went through this with my 1985 GSL-SE that sat for 5 years. Basically, you will have to go through the entire fuel system, tank to injectors. Pull the drain plug and then drop the tank. Make sure there are no holes anywhere. Remove the tank internal suction line and clean the plastic screen. Put degreaser in the tank and let it sit for a while. You may just want to consider taking the tank somewhere and having it boiled and coated. Once the tank is clean with no rust, put it all back together but first check both the metal suction and return lines. Run something thru them to ensure there is no crud inside. Pull the fuel pump and filter. Replace the filter with a new one. Blow out all your lines (toward the rear). Hook the pump up to 12volts to make sure it is working. Pull your injectors and at a minimum clean/check the metal screen and consider sending them off to be cleaned and flow tested. You shouldn't have any more problems if you go through all of this. PIA I know, but worth it.

If you set the idle higher will it stay running?
What is the minimum RPM that you can maintain?
How smooth is the engine as you climb up in RPMs?
What color smoke coming out of the tail pipe, if any?
Did you drain the fuel tank?
What are your plans with the donor?
What components are you planning of pulling, and what are they going into?
What color is the sky in Chernobyl?
If I spit on a kumquat does that make me a lesbian?
Was the PO a democrat or republican?
Did you do an Ohm test on your TPS?
What was I going to ask you next?
Do you have direct fire?
Have you done a compression test?
Paper or plasitc?
Wait, what's your question???

There are so many questions we could be asking (many irrelevant), but wouldn't it be easier on us if you could tell us more? Shouldn't we be answering question than asking?

I had a donar '84 GSLSE that I bought cheap, stripped and then sold. The PO couldn't get it to run properly, but after a new TPS, it ran like a champ. But that was my situation, not yours.

OK let start with the basics, drain the tank, put in fresh gas and some seafoam,
Have you checked your plugs and wires? If not maybe time to do a tune up. Do these first also do you have a chilton manual?
