85 GS Air Control Valve Rebuild Due To Failed Emissions

Hello To All!

Recently my 85 RX-7 GS failed emissions in CA due to a deteriorated diaphragm in my air control valve. Fortunately I had a spare used one in working order which then helped me pass emissions. The question is where can I obtain a rebuild kit which includes the diaphragms and gaskets. Seems a shame to purchase another such device only due to deteriorated rubber diaphragms which appear repairable. Is there parts availability for the acv or someone that can rebuild them? Any info is appreciated.

Just a tip for those that failed emissions testing: check the acv. The rubber diaphragms on mine were hard as a rock preventing their proper operation. If you have a high CO (carbon monoxide) reading, this part could be your culprit. Only three nuts secure it situated just below the carb just under the heat shield, the unit is then easily disassembled for internal inspection.

Usually a bad ACV will result in idle and performance issues that will signal a problem long before a smog test.

In my case only one of the diaphragms, the one closest to the exhaust manifold, showed signs of deterioration, the other was fortunately still in good shape. Being so, I guess that's why performance wasn't obviously affected just the emissions portion.
Instead of springing for a new one and spending over $500, I'd like to replace the diaphragm not the whole assembly and keep it as a spare. It seems doable but finding the correct one is a challenge, so far no luck. I may have to resort fabricating one and hope for the best. Any ideas where I might obtain one or know of someone that will rebuild them?

The diaphragm is available new from Mazda. That part number is 1480-13-730
The gasket part number is N201-13-724.

What else did you want to replace?

Thank you for the info but the rubber diaphragm I require replacement is behind one of the covers on the air valve itself, the check air valve is fine. Finding this diaphragm or the assembly it resides in has proven very difficult. As you can see in the attached photo the diaphragm is quite perished. Any ideas on how to remove that center plate so the diaphragm can be removed without destroying the part?
