85 dash cluster in a SA?

I got a 79 SA and planning on replacing all of my wiring inside and out. car sat from 86 to 03 and basically mice lived off it the entire time. when i got the car there were 3 mice nest in it. many wires were chewed or missing or beyond repair. i tried getting just an engine harness and other random pieces but still having MAJOR wiring problems so im planning on upgrading the system only hold back is im not sure if a 85 gsl 12a full wiring and dash cluster will fit the dash i have. i know wiring locations are slightly different, distributor and all and there will be some modifying but will the dash cluster fit the dash, if its not a perfect match is it a huge difference or is it somthing that can be made to fit. thanks for the info and help

Is your Sa cluster bad? I don't see any advantage to putting in a later model cluster. The only thing you gain is a oil pressure gauge on the cluster but the Sa motor is not plumbed for a sender unit.

84 & 85 have bigger instrument clusters. Unless you want to swap the dash. You will probably want a 79 to 83. preferably 79 or 80.

79 - 125~ mph speedo (Green backlit)
80 - 85 mph speedo (green backlit)
81-83 (amber front and backlit)

There are also some variations (clock and voltage gauge, etc), it's it too late for me to remember. Due a search it has been posted before.

i dont think that a newer wiring harness will plug up to the 79 dashcluster or will it. Im trying to get away from the 79-80 wiring, the distributor and relays and alt are different and i have upgraded mine since i got it. i want a harness from a 81- up just trying to see if it will connect up to my dash before i get one. The car i have is missing more then a few wires, its missing alot of relays and senders and stuff i dont even know about, thats why im trying to upgrade.

your going to have A LOT more wires on the 85 harness.
notice your sa doesnt even have a hole in the pass side firewall for the wires to run.
granted you dont need any of those wires anyway.
still, all your senders and lights use different plugs on the sa.
it would be much, much easier to make a cusum harness than to mod an fb one.

A few SA mods, including guage cluster swap (but S2 rather than s3).
