85 brake booster

in my 85 rx7 the brake booster seems to be leaking and is in bad shape. I looked online and only saw one replacement which was a booster delete

https://technotoytuning.com/mazda/fb/brake-booster-eliminater-sa-fb-rx7

does anyone know if this would work and if not what i should do. thanks

i have no issue with just replacing the old one with a new one if it fits i just can’t seem to find one online.

T3 also has a brake booster that fits. I haven’t tried it or know anybody that has but I noticed it a while back while scanning for parts.

The mini-booster that T3 offers mounts the master cylinder on it's side, so you need a different MC to use it. I think a Miata or FC MC would work but you'll need to bend new brake lines. I bought it and was disappointed it wasn't a direct fit.
I'll prolly send my stock booster to Rock Auto, thanks for the link KC.

I would not recommend a brake booster delete. Perhaps post a want to buy ad in the marketplace section reference the booster. I'm sure someone has a good one they would sell you.

I took the week to research some more and it looks like my two options are

https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/...lVehicle=false
and
https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...t=1884&jsn=832

the one from advance says its an exact fit and seems like it would work, It is 30 dollars more than sending it into rockauto to be rebuilt would the extra money be worth to get the new one from advance. Sending it into rockauto would also take time i figure a few week could be wrong. would I need to get a different master cylinder than stock if going with the one from advance . I need a new master cylinder anyway was planning on using this one from atkins https://www.atkinsrotary.com/store/8...66-43-400.html

Try adding the Advance Auto one to your cart. It will say it's out of stock.

What are the symptoms or signs that point to the booster? Maybe it is an easier fix than replacing the whole unit. They seem to be quite reliable, by 1982 booster Unit is original to the car and working great.

Also, since you're pulling the master cylinder anyway, probably a good time to replace it.

Its a straightforward job but make sure to follow the FSM or the Haynes manual as you need to setup the brake pedal freeplay. And watch the brake fittings, I had quite a hard time getting the hardlines to stop leaking. You will think its leak free but then a day of driving goes by and you see the threads on the flarenuts slightly wet.

Ordered the new master cylinder i have new brake lines ready to be flared and put into place. gonna sandblast the other piece and i might be able to fix the brake booster myself. There’s nothing wrong with it other than a slight leak. after i bled the brakes it was dripping but holding pressure.

not sure exactly where but when i look the booster is wet. it’s also super rusty so i can’t tell where it’s coming from. when i press the petal i hear air spitting out of that area.

The fluid could just be running down from the back of the Master Cylinder (where they meet) but if you hear air squishing out, the Booster is in trouble. Since these are what stop your hot little sports car, I'd try to figure it out and start replacing/rebuilding stuff.

The brake booster does not have fluid in it. It's just a big manual air pressure pump. Take off the brake master cylinder, clean up and rust, and then replace the brake master cylinder. Pretty area job. get a set of meteric line wrenches. Be careful to not twist the brake lines. Use two wrenches.

If you are hearing hissing from the booster when depressing the brake pedal, the booster is likely leaking from a pinhole due to the rust. The booster should be replaced and not repaired in my opinion. As far as the leak is concerned, it sounds as though the piston seal in the brake master cylinder has failed and is allowing brake fluid past the seal and the fluid is weeping down onto the booster. Likely what caused the corrosion to start on the booster and ultimately leading to its demise.
