85 with 170,000

Question 85 with 170,000

my 1984 has 170,000 miles on it. so far it just has a tune up on it but i was wandering what else i should do?

change the diff and tranny fluid. lube the ball joints, check for suspension wear and travel. flush the coolant. that should be a good start.

make sure the fuel pump is working within spec and make sure the carb is adjusted properly...

other than that, no real worries no timing belt or valve lash adjustment to deal with. these are easy engines to maintain as long as you keep on top of 'em.

allways with older 12a's i recommend that u drain all oil, ad whole big can of marvel mystery oil, then add ur oil, should help lube up that motor and break any carbon

A better way to rid of the carbon is to just DRIVE IT.

170k is middle-aged for a 12A.

227,600 miles on mine, and I suggest you drive it. It'll be a "rolling project" no matter how much you try to do preventatively.

BTW...where is the access to change the rear and transmission fluids? Something I still need to do.

well, i jsut bought my 85 rx-7 and it only has 98,665 on the odometer. and the guy i bought it from only wanted 775 for it

Runs like its brand new...

but i think i might need a new exhaust.
