84 GSL stereo removal question
My 84 GSL has a perfect interior, the top line stereo is included including the graphic equalizer.
My question is how do I remove the unit without doing any damage to the fascia. The car sat for 10 years and I suspect the plastic is pretty dry. I have a Jensen CD unit I wish to install so I also need to block the space below the unit.
Any advice on removal that can stop me forcing the wrong part and breaking something is greatly appreciated.

It's pretty straight forward, just look for the screws holding things down and don't force anything. Start with the plastic pieces on the sides, behind them there is a set of three or four bolts holding the unit to the frame. All three parts, the equilizer, the tape and the radio are held together as a unit and come out together, if you want to take them apart you do that after they are out.

you have to remove the ashtray, shift **** and shifter boot plate to expose the lower two screws holding the bezel on. also, you will need to remove the fan speed **** and the temp ****. behind them are two thin nuts. you will need needle nose pliers or your fingers, what ever works best. take those off. after that, slide the bezel foward a little. you will need to turn the lights counter clockwise that are behind the fan speed and teh temp selector. after that, it should slide right off. then i think there are four screws and three connectors for the radio. just unbolt the radio, slide it foward and unhook the connectors at the back of the radio. viola!

Step one: Remove the Temperature Control ****, and the Fan Control ****.
Step Two: Remove the two nuts on the studs behind the *****
Step Three: Gently pull up on the BACK of the plate around the shifter boot
Note: I find it easyest to remove the shifter **** and pull the boot off the
Tightening nut first
Step Four: Remove the two Philips screws at the botom of the panel, and gently lift the panel forward as far as the lights will let you
Step Five: twist out the lights and you are done.
Good Luck
