'84 GS Manual Choke

Can anyone help me since I'm new to this forum? When I pull the manual choke, I see that my choke plate does not close. My car will turn on but dies right after that. Has anyone experience this problem? The car only has 45k miles. I've replaced fuel filter, spark plugs and wires and distributor cap.

If the choke doesn't close then I suspect the cable is not attached or broken. If you have
someone hold the choke closed does it start? I assume now that the weather is cold this is the
first you have experienced this, right?

Thanks for your reply.
I see the cable move by the carb when I pull the choke inside but it doesn't move the choke plate. If I move the choke mechanism manually by the carb than the cable moves with it. Is something not catching or do I need to adjust the nut on the nut by the carb?
