Exclamation 84 GLS-SE Tranny Help please

ok this is wiered. i have been having some trouble with my transmition, it has had exessive noice in first sencond and third gear.

So i did my research before i posted and went and had my fluid checked to see if it was low.

The strange thing is the fluid level was good BUT the fluid was BLUE! actually like a dark teal!!!!!!!

Never seen or herd of anyhting like this any one have any ideas? im figuring i need a new tranny now (correct me if im wrong) but whats up with the fluid..

maybe someone put the wrong stuff in it, or maybe it's some sort of synthetic? never used it so i don't know. drain it and put regular 90w gear oil in it and see if it helps.

Time to go tranny shopping. I keep spares of a lot of stuff just in case. Love going treasure hunting at pick n pull. I always have spare starters, alternators, gobs of ignitors and 2 transmissions. Gotta stock up when the opportunity strikes! I had to courier a waterpump to a buddy overnight in Ontario when his packed it in, not the dealer nor anyone he could contact could find one for him.

If the throwout bearing is bad, the tranny will only make noise when you are stepping on the clutch. If it makes noise in neutral with the engine running, it may be the input shaft bearing in the transmission.

FYI....lubegard is good stuff!

fwiw my gsl-se has a noisy tranny also, like a whirring noise in proportion to speed. seems to be louder in lower gears but that my be d/t lack of other noise at lower speed. clutch seems fine, fluid was fine at last check. it'll be interesting to see if it improves with new fluid...
