yea, i already placed the order to mazdatirx for the 83, but there isn't a single one. i don't know if i could even get an 84 tank, but if i can hook it up without too much problems i would rather do that then wait.

Whats wrong with the one you got now?

If its rusty, you can take it to a local shop and they put a new liner in for ya. Its alot less expensive then getting a new tank.

I went the other day and got a quote for 132 if I dropped it and brought it in myself.

the only problem is that no one in my town does it. i was origianlly going to do that. i think i might give a dealership a call to see if they would do it. right now i'm sol until i find a new tank or someone to seal it.

I used a '80 SA tank in my '83 FB. It fit the same, and the fuel lines hooked up the same. You might find someone parting out a car that has a good tank. Since the '80 is the same, shouldn't the '81 through '83's be the same?

My '83 had been sitting for 13 years, so I've had lots of problems with gunk and rust in the tank. I had it boiled out at a radiator shop which got most of the gunk out, but stlll had rust in it. It would clog the fuel filter up in a mile or so. I ordered a kit from Rags-To-Riches that included Marcine Clean, Metal Etch and POR15 Fuel Tank Sealer. I just finished the treatment and have to wait 4 days for the sealer to dry before putting gas in it, but I think this is going to work. The tank looked great inside after the metal etch treatment- no rust at all. The kit was about $70.

You can do it yourself also, it doesnt seem like it would be that hard. Here is a link to that stuff called Por-15 which I would recommend using.

You could do what mattg said. I saw a 83 gas tank in the for sale section, but it already had people who have dibs on it

I need to drop my tank and see what it looks like inside. If there are a lot of dips and god forbid any baffles. I will take it to a shop.

I plan on doing this on my pinto gas tank, only thing is I cant find a fuel level sender. I wont put the old rusty one in my new tank.

Another thing I like about that shops, if something goes wrong I got someone else to blmae other than myself! lol

There is a baffle in the '83 tank. It is about the middle of the tank and runs from top to almost the bottom. You just jave to swish the chemicals around in it a lot to get everything cleaned/sealed. Also, I've had the pickup and reurn lines replaced in my tank, but looking inside it, the original return line had a wire mesh filter attached to the bottom of the tank. If I was still using it, the sealer would have ruined it.
