84 dies.
Hi, While out for a drive today my car was driving great until about an hour into the drive my rpms go way down to around 200. I give the car some gas but nothing. The car then stalls out and I coast into a vacant lot. I try to restart but it kinda sputtered and hovered around 200 rpm then stall again. After that I tried to restart the car and all it did was turn over but nothing. Could the fuel pump have quit? Like I stated the car has been running great up until this.

Well I got the car home. I poured some gas down the carb and the car started right up and then quit. I am sure now that the fuel pump could be shot. The tach is working fine. Now I read that their is a fuse for the fuel pump. Is it common for that to fail? I will test the fuel pump tomorrow when I have some more time. This is the first car that I have ever owned with a fuel problem like this that is why I am asking questions.

Well I found out what the problem was. I am the worst person for thinking the worst of a situation, well I am almost too embarassed to say this but I ran out of gas. Don't I ever feel stupid. My gas gauge does not work so I calculate my gas situation from my trip odo. Well I obviously miscalculated my gas. I think that it is time to get a fuel sending unit and not trust my mathematical skills anymore.

That was going to be my first question. lol. This past weekend I met a guy with a 89 vert, who was told by a garage that he needed a new engine. Perfect_Circle and I took a look at it, and yes, it was just out of gas. They had quoted him 5 grand for a replacement...

no gas gauge and calculating...eventually you find yourself out of gas somewhere.
I was doing that for a while
If you feel you can safely carry a 1/2 gal of gas with you. not the best of choices, its ususaly enough to restart and get out of traffic before a LEO (policemannnnnnn) comes smiling to give you all kinds of tickets. I dont find this in MD but it is the rule north of here big time.
