83 secondaries won't kick in!!!help..
My 83 is a daily driver for me to school. Its about a 12 mile drive on the highway. Man does it suck bad when my car only hits 65mph and then even drops down to 60mph and more some times. I have my foot to the floor on the gas pedal. The car has poor acceleration can't even pass cars on the highway.
I can push the rod under the diaphram of the secondaries and see them throw out gas and the car kicks in a good rev, but its just not working under load. I've checked the diaphram and its not torn or leaking air and even the spring is in working order. I have even tried the stupid mod on shorting the spring to see if it works, but nope its still the same. So I replaced the spring after that didn't work.
(for thoughts it can't be the cataylic converter being clogged because i don't have one its strait pipe from engine to muffler. Not even the fuel filter or plugs and that sort of thing.) Hold on my fuel filter is stock off my dead 81 can it maybe be straining under load? I can still here it clicking though..

I've already tried and put back on that safety throttle return spring and it didn't do nothing. the car still ran like crap and made it even worse. When pressing down the gas pedal it would barely move.

hold the engine at a high rpm (if it will get there) with no load and see what happens. if it revs up but but after a short while starts falling off, you are probably starving for fuel.....pump, filter, etc.

I'm going to try that, holding the rev at high rpm's to see if it can hold. my first thought would be that it could be the fuel pump since its an original 81 put into my 83, but the weird thing is that this never use to happen when my 81 was running. Wouldn't the fuel pump stop clicking if it was that, that was starving the car of fuel.

can't be the filter because its new. What about that cut off valve thats above the fuel tank is it possible that it might get clogged with some crap and be letting out small amounts of gas?

no i haven't what would you need for doing that? I was told it could be bad compression but i thought it might be something else first because when stepping on the gas pedal down to the floor i get this bad rattling noise coming from the inside of the rear of the engine or front of the tranny that area. It only happens when i push down the gas pedal to the floor and push rod under the diaphram of the secondaries by hand.
