83 le????
I think I may have unearthed the remains of an 83 Limited Edition. I am looking for some verification from some of the experienced forum members. The car in question is a 1983 GSL. The person I purchased it from bought it as a parts car in order to put the differential in a v8 rx-7 swap. The car was "drifted" into a curb or some other obstruction by a wanna be refugee from the fast and furious. 3 of the 4 original 14" wheels were destroyed and the fourth is still in the hands of the guy I got it from. I am working on getting my hands on it though! The original differential/master cylinder/proportioning valve were removed for the v8 swap and it now has a drum brake diff from an 82 or 83 S model in it. It has a good running 12a with a new exhaust on it. The seats and some of the stuff under the dash have been removed but the remaining interior is in good condition. Another piece of evidence leading me to believe it is an LE is the stock EQ in the dash.
Is there any other way to verify that it is a limited edition such as the VIN or other identifying marks? I was going to part it out and split the parts between my 2 SE's and my GS but I'm not sure now. Crap...another possible project! Now I need another parts car or 3 or 4.

Well mine has the chateau silver paint with the red pin stripe and the LE badge. And of course the 14" wheels. not sure if the build date effects all the LEs but I know mine has the 79-83 dash but has 84-85 front and rear bumpers

The car has been painted but it was originally some type of silver. The paint code is K8. I'll have to check what that is. The car has GSL badges between the doors and the hatch but I don't see any LE badges. I.ll have to post some pics later. I need to look at some LE photos. This car also has the 83 style dash and the 84/85 bumpers. The interior is burgundy.

I believe you are correct. The markings are not right for a Limited Edition. I still did ok for a parts car. I only paid 300 for it with a running engine and lots of good parts for my SE project. Oh well.. I got a little too excited. Thanks for the info one320fc.

I still have to see if I can get it from the PO. I sure wish the kid hadn't destroyed the other 3 as they are nice wheels. How hard are they to find in decent condition?

Those wheels can be pretty hard to come by. The LE did not have 4 wheel disk, or power windows either. Kinda weird if you ask me. This is the only pic that I could find of my buddy Rick's LE. The one on the right. The one on the left is my GSL. Paint code K8.

Thanks for the additional info bad 83 and aussiesmg. Most of my research so far has been targeted to the 84 and 85 models since they are all I have owned to this point. I too feel that it is strange that they would do a special edition without making it very special...lol. I would still like to have a set of the wheels though.
