83 Exhaust into 79

Someone on the forum wants to buy my exhuast from my 83, but we aren't sure if it will fit without problems in his 79....It's not all factory, but in general if it fits the 83 will it work on a 79?

It will work if you use everything (everything!) from the exhaust ports to the rear bumper.

Components-wise, there is not a single part that shares even remotely similar dimensions.

Oh, and '79 uses a non-converter emissions system, so if he has to pass emissions, he won't.

im the one that might be buying the exhaust. would it be possible to take the catalytic converter off my exhaust and put it on his? i need to pass emissions, but my exhaust is split on a weld point and it will probably cost around $200 just for the one pipe because i have to have a muffler shop custom make it. so with his exhaust, would it be possible at all to pass emissions?

Your 79 should not have a Catalytic converter.

You have a '79, which does not HAVE a catalytic converter. Your emissions system is completely different from a catalytic converter system, to the point where even the emissions ports in the engine itself are different.

Didn't the '79 use a thermal reactor where the manifold is? Not sure that would work.

There is not an aftermarket system made that will replace a 79 setup and still pass. But in most states a 79 is exempt from taking the test. Here in GA 79 and 80 do not need to pass. cars 25 years and older are not required to take it.
