Question 82 Elford RX7

Hi Club!!! I have a 1982 Elford RX7 that I put in storage 12 years ago. I bought the car because I loved the way it drove and handled and felt it might be a collectable some day. I never thought the Elford designation was other than a Dealer name but after reading a few threads I found it might be more. The car has the Elford designation by the Mazda logo in the rear, "pepperpot wheels" and a whaletail. I am not aware of any engine mods and it does not have turbo[yet]. I think I bought it from the orginal owner from California who was in upstate NY at the time. Can any one provide any info about it would be appreciated. Apparently the Elford dealer was in the Uk but the car has lhd. Thank you!!!

I also believe the Elford model is UK only. Turbocharger might have been an option, but it was available that's for sure. I have three pictures of that model in a book called ''50 years of classic cars''. Maybe some of these options apply only to the turbocharged model, but on my pics it has gold mags with 12 holes in them (I guess they could be called pepperpot), has headlight washers, a front airdam with foglights, and a wraparound body color spoiler. Side mirrors are also different, black but with a squarer shape. Let's see some pics!!

The only info I have about Elfords is about the turbo model. Sorry I haven't got back to you on it, I was going to scan in the information I have and e-mail it to you. However, my scanner and my computer are electing not to communicate with each other, sadly.

Hell I can't even find the book right now. IIRC Elford was a Mazda dealership, and they uprated some of the cars they sold. Kinda like Scoggin-Dickey or Yenko in the US during the 60's.

Is it possible that your car had an Elford turbo kit on it at one time and then it was removed? There were also Elfords turbo front and rear spoilers. Elford's Engineering is a large dealership in Bournemouth (still there but don't sell Mazdas anymore). They modified about 600 Elford Turbos and also sold kits.

I will post some pics as soon as the snowpile melts in front of the barn. Other than 22 year old paint the car is in good shape and ran great with a little over 100,000 on it. No rust and interior decent.

I am wondering if the Elford dealer is in fact that of Vic Elford, one of the greatest racers of all time! So that alone imho makes it priceless. This is something I would want to verify.

don't know which picture you mean but please feel free to visit Dutch RX-7 club forum and ask a question there. i made an english part there (English spoken) and if i remember correctly there is a member that is selling the frontspoiler, the wheelarches and sideskirts of this kit:
