+1 to this. Have had 82 ad 83.5

Not sure if all 83 have the 120 speedo, but if its an 83.5 with a big bearing rear end it should have the 120

Mine is an 83 gs w/ small bearing axle and has a 130mph speedo...says 120 but there is still 10 more clicks after it.

My S2 has an 85MPH cluster also, doesn't bother me.

I like to stick with the 180 clusters

+1 on the '83, the PO of my car changed it to an '83 cluster. the reason behind it being an 85 in 82 is because that was federally regulated. if you look at any car before '82, but after a certain year they will all max out at 85 on the speedo... idk why but thats how it is lol

Federally regulated in 80, 81 and 82. Cars speedo read 85 mph. If you made a car with one that read faster it was fine. You just had to pay the gas guzzler's tax.

yes the 83 speedometer is what you seek. a later 84-85 speedo will not work in an 83.

yea its a direct bolt in. speedo gear in the trans may be different as well so snag that just in case.
