80 pionts distributor in an 82 engine??? Possible?
It's pretty simple, I have a 82 rx7 with a blown up motor and I found a local 1980 motor with a points distributor. Can I put this 1980 motor in my car but put my 82 distributor in the engine? I was thinking I could but I thought I mights as well ask the pros! I found the whole car, it's a 79 SA with a newly remanned 80 engine, and she's including the origional 79 compressionless motor too. We settled on $500. Considering the rareness of these 7's up here in Pennsylvania I think it's an alright deal.
She's deff got some rust but someday I'll have her on the road as well cause my girlfriend wants to drive a seven right along with me!
Thanks for the help guys!

Well, J-109s are mounted on the Dizzy, and J-105's are mounted on the driver fenderwall. I would assume some rewiring would be in order, plus the fact that if you blow a 105 it will be way harder to find one (and probably pricier) than a 109.
2GDF is 2nd Gen Direct Fire, short for 2GDFIS, 2nd Gen Direct Fire Ignition System. It is when you use the FC leading coil to fire your leading plugs, better burn, better idle, better revs, and better high end. Cost me 20$ and 10 minutes.
And for Jeff's post, I believe it is Dual Leading Ignition(Ignitor?) Direct Fire Ignition System. I think.

Now I'm making myself sick thinking about this.......... I just bought some blaster 2 coils, would I be ok using those too? I just need it running while I rebuild my motor and bridgeport it!
Yes you can use the blaster2 coils. If you run the 2nd gen ignition, then just run one blaster on the trailing, if you care enough for it. When you go 2GI, you won't really need the Leading coil anymore.

Seriously, took me no more than 10 minutes to install it.
IMO, it would be worth it to chuck out 20-30$ for a 2nd gen coil and be done with it, less headaches installing and running it (as opposed to rewiring it), but what you want to do IS possible and has been done before.
Good luck on the project!
