80 Intake Manifold vs 84 Intake Manifold?

80 Intake Manifold vs 84 Intake Manifold?

i'm bolting all the bolt on stuff to this 80 motor i'm putting in my 84, and i'm wondering if the 80 intake manifold is better or the 84 is better... i've been told the 80 is better by one person, i'd like more input...

The '80 is better, the ports are more symmetrical than the '81-85 bastardization. About the only thing worse than an '81-85 manifold is if you take an '81-85 manifold and remove the shutter valve butterfly and shaft and do no other alterations. Leaves you with an aneurysm in the middle of the #2 primary runner.

yeah that shutter made me wonder... guess i'll go back to the 80 manifold, no big deal, thanks

The 1976 intake manifold has the larger center ports but otherwise there were no port size differences in the 79-85 models. Obviously you'd get the '76 manifold from one of the other RX cars

my 79 mani was a tad bigger then the stock 82

course it was ported

Will they work with a 85 Carb and engine?

yes, but you have to block off the air injection hole in the center plate, its right under the intake manifold, rectagular shape

i used jb weld

Is that for the EGR... ****... Perhaps that's not a good idea then...

I need to pass emissions for at least half an hour every other year.

its to inject air into the exuast
if you bypass the ACV and have the air pump go into the cat, you can do without it


or you can weld a block off plate onto the 80 mani

Guys. It's an '80 motor that is going in. No air injection port below the center intake ports.
