'80 flywheel question. Please help.

Howdy!
I pulled my transmission yesterday to replace the clutch in my '80 and I noticed there is no metal lock washer on the flywheel nut. Is this normal? All my experience has been with Rx3 and RX4s, which do have the washer. The nut is tight, hasn't loosened up, I'm wondering if I can get away with some blue loctite, or do I need to get one of the washers? Thanks for any help. -Mike

I think mazda eliminated the flywheel nut lock washer beginning in 83. Use lock-tite as a safety measure.

Yeah, I don't think you are supposed to have one. The only one I have seen was on my RX-2.

Many thanks for responding to my query.
A quick update: pulled a muscle in my lower back trying to get the flywheel nut loose. On second thought, that friction surface doesn't look bad at all... Think I'll leave the flywheel on. -Mike
