79 widebody convertible

Body has the eidebody kit molded in really nice but white paint is chipping. Also he has some hugh 16x7 and 16x8 wheels on. I dont know much about the first gen, can anyone tell me hp output, weight, and other info u know. The guy wants $3200 but i feel thats way to high. Hes not even the owner, he claims the owner left to mexicao and gave it to him to sell and he doesnt have any paper work or plates. Any info and suggestions will help. thanks

stock - 100HP... if you're lucky and the engine has all good compression... weight, with widebody... ~2600 for a '79...
value with no papers - $0
value with papers - $1800-$2000 IMO... a stock-ported, stock otherwise 12A car from '79 is going to be a DOG with a widebody kit molded in... that's extra weight for no output really...
I'd just buy a different stock car for cheaper, and put the money into suspension, tires, engine mods, etc..
if you can get a list of ALL the stuff done to it (suspension, wheels, tires, brakes, exhaust, etc) as well as the condition of the rear wheel wells (storage bin area, even though there's no storage bins in a '79), then we'd have a better Idea as to what you'd expect to pay for it.

The other question is it a safe car. Pacific Avatar were the main suppliers of convertibles. Their production cars had a numbered plate in the engine bay clearly identifying them.
If its not a Pacific Avatar car I would not touch it as several conversions were badly engineered and potential death traps.
Performance was well down due to the extra weight, with a widebody as well the only way to get a sub 20 second 1/4 mile would be to get a tow from a Honda Civic.

right, I forgot all about all the extra reinforcement that goes into making it a convertible.... youch... that thing would be slow as ***....
well, if you're looking for a show car that doesn't perform, and you can get the title, etc, then go for it, but if you're looking for a performance beast, expect to start a 13B-RE conversion
