79 tach

so i bought a 79 rx-7 from my friends brother for $250!!! it had sat in his garage for about 6 years and he needed it out of there. he didnt even think it would run anymore because it had sat, and his mom had threw out the key, accidentaly. the car has 75000 miles and the body is absolutely solid. i got a key made and it started right up.

so the tachometer for a 79 doubles as a volt meter? mine is having problems jumping back and forth from reading actual rpm and somewhere around 5000 (reading volts maybe) but it just does it randomly. any suggestions?

I bet the distributor is bad. Mine did that really bad until I swapped the points distributor out for an electronic distributor.
