'79 engine in an '82?

Hey guys,
I just picked up a 12a out of a 72 FB. Got a great deal on it, and its got really low miles. as far as i know its burning some oil, which is why the previous owner got rid of it, nothing im too worried about.
I was hoping to rebuild the thing and get it ported to swap out for the engine in my 82 fb.. Is that even possible? i figure they're both 12a's so i dont see why it wouldnt be a simple swap..

Anyone know if this is possible? any experience?

Thanks for the help guys!

I want to say you'd have to do a bit of rewiring since the dizzy and coils are different

what's there to re-wire? just pop in that 79 12-A and the 81+ dizzy. that only issues you may have is mismatching intake manifold shall you decide to use the 81+ iintake and the 79 did not come with an oil pressure gauge but that an easy task by tapping the rear oil line banjo bolt

Dizzy=Distributor

On the 79-80, there is a small port on the exhaust side that the 82 goes not cover. Use everything thats bolt to the engine from the 82. The only exception would be the thermal reator (exhaust manifold). You might have to use the 79 to cover the port. It's been a looong time since I did this swap, but I used JB weld to cover the hole. Not sure I would that it again even thought it worked great. Someone else might have a better suggestion. If your doing a rebuild, you might be able to use the center iron from a 81-82.
