Is it the '78s that have the hood prop on the pasenger side... did they also have a solid brake light (with "RX7" written in black) where the licence plate holder is on most...I am starting to think I have a '78...

Yes the late 78\early 79 Rx7 had the hood prop on the right side of the car .. now on the plate on the back that says "RX7" that was an aftermarket bolt on part that was made in the early to late 80's...

also check the left side door post as that is where Mazda puts the year it was made and small data plate.. for your year it is riveted to the body...

FYI the "RX7" paniel that is between the tail lights DOES NOT light up at all.. I have 2 here in my house {1 for the SA and 1 for the FB} it is there to add some look to the car... Not trying to burst your bubble on that one...

your welcome for the info about your RX7..

Well, there is no such thing as a '78...not for the U.S. anyway. But the early '79 has the hood prop on the right

Check the vin#. According to VB/Black Dragon, the 1979 models were produced from March of '78 thru June of '79. The vin #'s were from 500001 - 568500, with the lower numbers, obviously being the earlier productions.

Yep, I had a '79 that was made I think ina Aug of '78. My '85 was made in '84 and I'd be sure that my '84 was made in '83.
