6-port, street, and bridge?!?!

im new to the rotary and have heard alot about "porting". it keeps popping up in places and im dyeing to figure otu exactly what it is. i think i have a general idea but would just like to be sure and have a mroe in depth understanding how how it works and such. thanks for you help :]

Not quite true


Early 13B's had 4 ports

All production 12A's have 4 ports

13B's as fitted to 2nd gen N/A's have 6 ports

13B turbo's have 4 ports

The six ports were used in a similar way to the VTEC cam system on the hondas .... when the engine reaches a preset RPM/load level the extra ports open up allowing the engine to breathe better and make more top end power.

This is a benafit as they are closed at low rpm's so the engine produces good torque at low Rpm's too.

Well thats how I see it working anyway

EXACTLY.

although Japan did have a "production" 6-Port N/A 12A motor for a limited time..

BAAAH ! The Japanese get all the good stuff !

You guys did get 13b engines in 1st gens though ...

where as Japan had to "make do" with "just" a production 12a Turbo
