6.5" Speakers

OK - kick me - but there's no one in the Audio Section and I'm looking to buy some speakers in the next 15 minutes. What's the best 6.5" speaker (stock location for the rear of the FB). I'm looking at Rockford Fosgate, Boston Acoustics and MB Quart. What has the best bass? Thanks for opinions... !

MB Quarts are good, but I wouldnt get them for bass response. They can have some harsh highs (I personally like that though) at times, but they can still sound really good. I personally think that a good all around speaker would be an Infinity Kappa, but dont ask ioTus about them, lol. His blew and he doesnt like them anymore, lol. I plan on getting all Infinity Kappas for my car eventually, just because Im not in need of some monster stereo like my friend with his Miata: http://www.cardomain.com/member_page...=365436&page=4 I would be happy with 4 decent speakers and a 10" sub .

My friends Miatas trunk (I had to install that):

OK, well it was my own stupidity that blew, not the speakers.

The speakers are fine. I unplugged my sub amps and realized that it was them clipping at the HIGH end of their range that was causing distortion!!!!

SO! Running just the speakers, i determined that they are awesome!

Infinitty Kappas do work very well. I have 6x9's in the rear and 5.25's in the front.

Check my avatar for pics of the install (I think they are on there anyways, maybe not. ) if not, i'll repost with some pictures.

In a first gen, no.

NO speaker will.

Mounted in the side wall has nearly NO room for bass resonance. In fact, i'm running bass blockers on all of my speakers to prevent them from distorting due to lack of resonance area.

If you want bass, get a 10" subwoofer to accompany your speakers.

GGGRRRRRRR... Alright, I've been forced to admit I'm an old man. Though I do listen frequently to Tribe, Craig Mack and Redman - I've never gotten into the "sub" culture. It gives me a headache. So I guess the question is, which one has the best bass. What about JBL's?

But, in just about any application, I personally think that Infinitys have AMAZING bass for being just a 6.5" speaker. My Dads Inifinitys are custom installed on the B pillars and you can feel the bass in the seats with them there with no distortion. Theyre an older model too!

The front 5.25" speakers (these took quite a bit of custom fabbing to get to fit, i had to cut a bunch of metal behind them, and it was a PITA to get them screwed in with that kick panel there.

and the custom fit 6x9's with riser plates:

You know, most of the punk kids that have subs have them turned so high that you cant hear anything but bass from 3 blocks away. Im 19 and CANT STAND that. I only want a sub for good low end along with the speakers. Its like using driving lights AND headlights. Its just to help it out a little. Not to take over. Im not trying to persuade you one way or the other, just trying to say that a sub could very well please you when installed and tuned properly to the music you listen to.

On another note, Ive heard good things about JBL speakers, but have never personally heard them. My friend has some Kenwoods in his Jeep that have some really good bass to them as well. Comparable to an Infinity, although the Kenwoods distort at a lower volume and cant handle as much power.

I can feel mids in my seats, and I still say the bass is shitty.

i'm VERY Picky about my music. It has to have 100% of the frequency response. I HATE lost frequencies!

With just the speakers, you will have extremely weak bass, and nice mids and highs. This WAY offsets the sound quality, leaving you with a very dissapointing sound for the top of the line speakers.

This is what i thought when i put in my competition Kappa's. I expected competition sound.

But that isnt possible when mounting in the stock location in our cars. A sub is required to compensate for the lack of bass response available, regardless of where you put the 6.5's or what not.

Thanks for the 6x9 pic - I always wondered what that cut would amount to... I think I'll take the advice - what about these?:

Yeah, on a side note, just so you know,

i have two 12" subwoofers, that you can hear from miles away.

HOWEVER< that is there for sound competitions and to show off for friends.

I usually have them as LOW as they can go (thast how powerful they are), and it makes my music sound so rich and full that i might as well be in the recording studio.

a single 10" sub should fit your needs perfectly. If you would like, i could do a search and show you something that would fit your application well..

I'm getting plenty of base with my Kappa 6.5's - but you have to power them with a good quality clean amp. I'm using an alpine V12 (4x60w rms) and I'm happy with the base response. Sub's offer a little too much color for my taste but each to their own. The little 4's in the fronty really surprised me (also Kappa's) - Mid's are pretty solid and they balance out much better than I thought they would with the 6.5's pounding in the rear. And I wouldn't try mounting anything in the doors - you will get better imaging by keeping the fronts further away from you - I hear 5.25's will fit in the stock enclosure - if so, they would be altimate - 2 cents

Those are the ones I planed on getting for the back of my car. I hear good things about those. Also, if you dont have any problems with it, check Ebay for them. Theyre cheaper there.

You will like those speakers. You should also replace the front speakers as well.

How about the rest of your sound system, by getting infinity speakers, you are going to be limited now by your amps and reciever( cd player or radio or whatnot)

This is just my $0.02...

At one point I wanted to keep mine all original, the OE clarion not moded, so off to the speaker store I went...

I told the guys there what I wanted to do and told them I didn't want to change the stock head. So they recomended modular speakers for the rear. So I picked up Kenwood Excellon 6.5" modulars for the rear and what ever the stock size is for the fronts in a standard type Excellon in the front.

The modular speakers produce a bit more bass because the speaker cone is not cut to accomodate the tweeter. The only problem is that you have to find a way to mount the rear tweeters. In my '85 I just cut the interior peace and flush mounted them next to the speaker.

Any way that is just what I found. They sounded nice, but I got tired of the discman, and chords and went to this set up...

Kenwood Excellon CD/Tuner Head

The speakers form above

and 2 Excellon 10" subs Powered by a 450W mono amp.

My dad hates thump, and he can actually stand to drive my car. I have my sterio set up so it enhances the listening exsperience not drowns out the music.

But I can still make Socker Moms on Cell Phones Roll up their windows when I want to

Just another option

I have Boston 5.25 components up front, cheapo Infinity rear (I think) all driven by a PPI amp and Nak head unit. Sounds cleaner than a virgin in a bathtub. Bass response is good and punchy, not distorted at all.

Right on.

I've had Boston Acoustics in my past RX-7's, but that was about 7 years ago or so. I always thought they had good sound, with excellent bass for their size. But... 7 years later, things change - speakers change - and with audio being such the rage these days, I thought I'd check... Funny: the other day I laughed passing a gas station - four guys were looking in the trunk of a Honda. I thought to myself - wrong end! When I was growing up, it was was what was under the hood that mattered!

i have infinity speakers, not sure which kind as they were put in before i bought the car. when i got it, i put in a 12" sony xplod sub, normal front ported box, mounted it right behind the seats facing the glass of the hatch like anthrax. i power it with an mtx roadthunder 200 watt amp. that's all it needs, BELIEVE ME, i listen to alot of hardcore and metal which isn't setup for crazy bass, i like to hear and feel the pure thickness of everything and actually knowing there's drums there is nice too. especially when the drummers feet are going 200 bpm! often times though i listen to coldplay and sting and by not even touching the eq those cd's still sound crystal clear and so nice. our cars are shaped so well that te bass just reflects and surrounds! WOOHOO!

Not trying to steal the thread, buut...

I listen to punk. Greenday, sum41, blink, Greenday.

I like bass, but can't stand too much like all the "ricers" have around here. What are some good all around speakers as replacements? I'm pretty sure my entire right side is blown as no sound comes out of it. [oh really?, duhh].

Any suggestions for some all-around good speakers for the front?

Infinity . They will sound good in the stock setup, they will sound good in a mid to high end setup. They are honestly one of my more favorite speakers, and at a decent price too . Not neccessarily the Kappas, but the References sound good too, and come with a smaller price tag .
