5 lug conversion?

Ok I have my 85 gsl. I picked up a 1990 gxl. The 90 has the 15" bbs wheels on it that I think would look bad *** on my fb. I've looked all over and haven't found anything. How can I convert my car to five lug? I know you can buy adapters but is there any way to steal parts of the fc for the fb?

FC front Subframe swap and drilled hubs in the rear is the easiest route. Search the technical threads and you'll find tons of writeups along with build threads. Do the research and then decide if you want to go through all that work.

Yeah that sounds like way more than I want to do. Any one ever run those adapters? Are they safe?

I was thinking about something like that but didn't know if you could do that?
I really think the wheels would look sweet on my silver 85. And those bbs wheels are kinda pricy so I want to hang on to em.

xlr8planet, have you ever drilled your hubs or know anyone who has? On the surface it sounds like a no-brainer type thing to do to solve the problem , but I've never actually met anyone who's done it. Must be a reason why... I actually bought a 4x114.3 set of adapters that I'm planning on installing next spring and mounting some Volk's 16's on my FB

Nice. No I haven't. Maybe wheel adapters is the easy way to go.

I haven't, yet.

I was talking about re-drilling the wheels

I don't trust adapters, and I drive my cars pretty hard.

Some tracks won't let you run with adapters

People in the Rally America series (Groups 2 and 5 generally) will redrill axles pretty frequently. There are several threads containing that information on Rally Anarchy - Don't Panic.

Or, swap your rear axle to a Toyota pickup. Requires some fab work, but there are threads on that on this forum, and on rally anarchy. And if you're doing fab work for an FC front subframe swap, might as well do some for the rear as well.

Thanks for the info guys. I don't think I want to go as far as a subframe swap though. The big brake kit seems like a good route. But for the prices I could just buy rims that fit already.

For all first gens, the spindle is integrated in the strut tube. You can convert to T2 front brakes with a couple of manufactured parts plus the T2 rotor and caliper.

For the rear they drilled the 5 x 114.3 on the spindles and welded the old holes closed

but for the most part it looks as if the cut the spindle up on the t2 drilled 4 holes and bolted it up like what you would do on a newer car with a wheel hub ill get a pick of the rear axles too while im at it

The subframe swap does not appear to be that hard from the how-to threads I've read. A bit of drilling and welding. I'd contact Moser directly about the axles and just mention the one distributor you know of isn't being communicative and they will likely point you to another distributor or sell the axles to you directly. Your doing it the smart way though. I did the brake upgrade first and then had the "oh ****, I'm gonna need new wheels!" revelation.

haha yeah i have all the second gen brake stuff including spindles but i dont want to start looking at wheels until i can measure the new setup and figure out the offset that i will need. probably going to do something in a 16" or 17" rim assuming the 16" will clear the new brakes.

15" wheel will clear the turbo brakes front and rear. I am doing it on my STU race car project and 15 wheels are used with these brakes all the time in club racing. As a general rule, a 15" wheel will clear an 11" disk brake - see the 87-93 Mustang GT.
