what application would a 40mm weber side draft carb work on. i know nothing about carbs really at all. would this be too much for a non-ported 12a, or not enough for a ported motor? what would be the best application.

my goal is to run a large streetported 12a, with headers, exhaust. n/a. would this carb do the trick?

also, would i need the upper AND lower intake manifolds changed to use this carb?

also, as far as cold weather goes, is there a choke assembly on this, and if not, would it make it a real pain in the *** to start in cold weather?

A 40 is way too small, even for stock ports. Get a 48!

 

hahaaaa lol you must be joking too big? that carb is too small. you might be able to run 2 on a stock port 12a. 45 dcoe is the minimum if you go single..the 40 dcoe will flow about the same as a stock nikki.

 

as stated, you can run TWO two barrel 40dcoes and it might work. I think the standard for driveablity and what not is a 45dcoe which would work on a stockport, and a mild streetport. On a bigger largeport, you'll want the 48dcoes. From what i understand, the 48dcoes are a tough find, and all the dcoes are tough to find b/c weber has stopped manufacturing them for a bit.

Ive got a 48 IDA on my 12A street port and it is fKN awesome

my bro had one on his stock port 12a and it was sweet aswell.

It just means that qtr throttle is all you need around town and full throttle is really for like 5000 RPM +

yea IDA is the best, but pricy and harder to find as well. I wish i would've gotten the 48, but dumb *** got talked into a 45dcoe. ohwell. I wish i had a 48dcoe, and yes the nukbers are the mm... nightty night

 

From what ive read a single 40mm will work, it just needs to be set up differently that a bigger one.

 

if you went with a 40mm you would have to max out your choke sizes and it would really **** up airspeed coming into it. If you can find one for the right price try it but I wouldnt recomend it. You would have to have some fat jets on there and it would be a really "interesting ride"
For a stockport 12A i'm running 36 chokes on a 45 DCOE.. its a fun ride but still needs some more tuning.

 

i think i'll stick to a nikki, and when i go streetport, get it modded to a sterling.

how many mm would a stock nikki be in comparison to the 40, 45, 48, and 51mm carbs out there?

 

The Nikki is a 4 barrel carby and Webers are 2 barrel so comparing the throttle diamaters wouldn't really tell you anything.

I`am running a 40 DHLA Dellorto :
38mm Venturies
200 main Fuel
240 main Air

It works great!Much easier to tune than the Nikki,and in my application performs allot better!

Dont throw the 40mm DCOE + DHLA carbs away.They work very good with a little work!

he's right. i've used a 40mm single Solex carb on my stock port 12a, and it will work at first, but later on, from what i experienced, you're car will start to run rich (due to insufficient air intake) which will f**k up your spark plugs, cause your car to smoke alot and shoot fire constantly, basically just a pain to work with IMO.

I just converted my carb back to the stock nikki and it feels the same as it did with the 40mm Solex. But the nikki performs better ( no fluttering in turns)

I haven't tried 45mm yet but i heard some great stories about the power it gives

 

oh its a blast .. need more money for a weber tuning kit my drill press can only go so far
