Question 4 puck?

what are the pros/cons of 4 puck, 6 puck, and street discs?

puck type Pro's:

fast disengagement -- less wear on tranny syncros
lighter disk -- faster shifts (4-puck is lighter than 6)
more holding capacity -- higher power handling.
more heat disipation -- takes race stresses better

puck type Con's
fast engagement -- hard to start from a dead stop
much higher "spring" rate from solid center --more vibrations transfered to the rest of drivetrain possibly accelerating tranny wear
more grab and chatter -- smooth starts nearly impossible, flywheel and pressure plate wear accelerated. More likely to break drivetrain components from shock loading, especially with sticky tires.

As far as streetablity is conserned, I don't think it is that difficult to drive such a light car with a puck clutch, but it would become tiresome in stop-n-go traffic.

Isn't a 6 puck with a sprung center ok for the street?

Heck, I'd driven plenty of cars without the sprung center, and they're just fine on the street. The sprung center is really only there to provide some vibrational dampening. When you go WOT the springs compress all the way making their rates almost infinite.

Yes, I love mine on the street. It's a 6puck ceramic, sprung center, double springs on the pressure plate. It's from www.southbendclutch.com and they claim it'll hold around 500lbs of torque. It seems like it will too, I can break the tires(205 potenza's) loose shifting into 5th with low boost. Also, the pedal pressure is almost no different than stock, and it engages very smooth and easy for how much it can hold.

I have a 4 puck, lots of bite, hard to start smoothly even with the stock flywheel. I plan to put in the 4.38 rear end, hopefully that makes it easier to start off, and faster of course

The 6 puck, sprung center sounds like it would be a good clutch for a 7.

I think the biggest problem with that kinda clutch it accelerated tire wear. I'm kinda new to driving a stick, but I have already noticed a direct "attraction" to "quickly" letting out the clutch too often. Its just soooo much fuin, even with the stock clutch. Oh well, the faster I wear this clutch out, the faster I can put a HD clutch in, mabey even a 6 puck if budget allows it.

would the wear still be bad on the flywheel, if the 6 puck had a sprung center?

I have been running the RB race pressure plate and unsprung 4 puck. I have really like it so far, 1st gear is a little hard to start in, but after that its fine, even then i can still drive around in parking lights and around town fine. The car also has a light flywheel too.

yup, 4-puck here in the RX-3 with 3500 lbs dual diapram pressure plate. FB with 6-puck; good for now but i actually miss the quick engagement of the 4-puck.

RB 4 puck (unsprung) with Stock Pressure plate and stock flywheel. Been driving on it for a year. Tranny has become very loud and the shutter from a stop makes the shifter shake like no other!! Will chirp going into thrid with no one else in this mostly stock car.

Latley I have been hearing the bearing moving when
the clutch is out and the car is in neutral. It's not the throw out bearing because I have replaced that and it didn't fix it. I'm guessing the input bearing in the tranny?? I bought the bearings for the tranny. Has anyone put those in?? was it very difficult?
