3rd gen alternator in first gen

Hey, what's up, does anyone know if a 93 alternator will fit in my 83 rex? Also does anyone know what the amp rating on a 93 alternator is? Thanks

Change the puly to a v-belt and you will need to find a wiring adapter if you car is an older first gen. The later first gens had the correct wiring adapter I believe. Ask Yayarx7, he has done this.

No. I put a 87 T2 alternator in my 85 GS. It was a plug and bolt in. I think it is rated at 80 amps or so.

I know you're asking about a 3rdgen alternator, but when there's only a 10 amp difference and no monkey-crap to put in a 2ndgen alternator, why bother?? Here's that conversion into an '80...look at your plug now to determine if you need to change your wiring...

the easier way to get a big alternator before you commit to a 140 amp $250 monster

Hope that helps...

There were several 2ndgens at my favorite boneyard but it won't be 'til Wednesday when I can get out there to see if they have the alternators still in them. I'll check on pricing and I can take them to O'reilly's to see if they're good... I paid a $100 to RP for mine, as an asides..is the 3rdgen alt cheaper?

That's what I paid because I didn't know better, I was too lazy to do the research and get one, AAANNNDDD I needed it yesterday when I called Rotary Performance. I don't feel cheated because I paid them to get it and send it to me with explicit instructions on the correct mounting and wiring. Now I'm older and wiser and wouldn't pay for one when I can pick 'em up cheaper by myself...

Make sure that your wiring can withstand the extra amps. You wouldn't want to be driving down the road ablaze.

No problemos so far and this is with an early model Derale electric fan that pulls 30 amps when on...I didn't even change the strut tower fusible link box (Oh, horrors!!), although I did get brand new fusible links...
