2nd Gen to 1st Gen rear seat
2nd Gen to 1st Gen rear seat
I know this has been asked many times, but is there anyway possible to get a 2nd gen rear seat in a 1st gen? I don't want to rebuilt the frame of the car but I can fabricate some brackets or something like that.
Well let's see, I spent $1000 on the car, $500 getting it driveable, $80 a month on insurance, and more than likely $50 a month on maintenance, that works out for a 1st year cost of around $255 a month for a 16 year old kid to have a decent set of wheels. I've got an 8 and 10 year old son's that have to be driven to school every morning and occasionally driven to soccer and football practice. So why would I care whether or not it's cool or not to have a back seat in a RX7. As far as I'm concerned my 16 year old can drive the minivan or have a back seat in his beloved RX7!!!!

Ive been told that it fits (including the belts), only minor fitting needed. No firsthand experience though.
97dohc- They were availible here in the states, and Mounts for the seat/belts are already in the car. No saftey issues to be concerned with if its installed correctly.

It would be a tight squeeze for kids too. I've looked at how much room there is back there without the bins in the car, imagining where the seat would be and its gotta be a REAL tight fit. Mabey if you lay accross the seat you would have enough room.

but you have been in the 7 scene longer then me
its pretty crappy.... the base is made entirely of foam
and the back is foam with a metal back plate....
no room for an adult unless the people in the front seats are 4' tall and have seats ALL the way foward

After reading all of the responses, I come to a decision, the kid will just have to make extra trips to chaffeur my other two kids around, what the hell he's got nothing to do and I'm paying the Gas!!!!!

Some dealers were selling them, I remember seeing around 1983-1985. As stated above, the bottom is just a shaped chunk of foam and the back simply a padded metal frame. With a little skill and ingenuity you could make a back seat and get it upholstered. Let me know if you want pictures. Considering the size of the car, the rear seat is not bad for small children or girls. My brother who is 5'10 can fit back there with his feet on the other side of the hump.

Why the hell do you guys have a first generation 7 if you need a car that can tote people around...
Don't screw up a nice sports car, it can't help that it's not meant to have a back seat...
