I have the SA set to use the 2GCDFIS with transistor trick modification. The ignition runs very well, just on caveat. When I tried to swap to FC lead plugs, they fould within a day or 2. The normal plugs for the SA do not foul.

Is there any consequence to using the 12a plugs versus bur7eq 13b lead plugs with this ignition setup? any ideas as to why the FC plugs foul with the carb setup the same as for the 12a plugs?

any advice is much appreciated, because when the 13b lead plugs are in, the SA does run better and holds a smoother idle and seems to accellerate more smoothly.

 

I also run the TT, and I've had no issue with the 2nd gen plugs. How's your idle mixture?

Also, after you got the TT running, did you check the timing? Its been proven pretty consistently that the timing will be off after the installation, and needs to be set. If I remember correctly, it will be retarded after installation, so if you didn't recheck timing that would definitely cause fouled plugs because the spark would hit too late in the cycle to create sufficient burn.

Does the 2GCDFIS change the timing setpoints we should be aiming for? I've noticed mine running rich since I installed it, didn't redo the timing so that makes some sense, just trying to determine if I'm still aiming for the same degrees.

 

It retards timing a bit. You'll need to advance about 8* to bring back to where the timing was before.

I have had no problems with the FC plugs. In fact, they work better than the FB plugs in my experience.

 

I am fairly sure I checked the timing after install, but I will go take another look. I wouldn't put it past myself to forget that somehow.

 

Well, I checked the timing and it was retarded! I advanced it. I'll see how it does over the next several days.

 

Good to hear, as long as your idle mixture is alright then you should be all set. Might want to check the condition of your air filter too though, as a clogged filter can also cause it to run a bit rich....
