2GCDFIS quick question
I've searched all the threads on this and walkthroughs but one thing still remains a mystery to me. I know the stock coil - wire is connected to the 2 wires that were spliced together. The mystery is where the + wire goes. I am under the assumption that you hook up both the stock coil + wire and the 2nd gen coil + wire both on the + post of the 2nd gen coil. Pretty much just add the stock coil + wire to the + post, not even removing the 2nd gen coil wire. Am I under the correct assumption?
BTW, this is being done on a friend's car, as I am waiting for the transistor trick to be finalized for my conversion.
Thanks in advance,
Bryan

So do you have it so the (-) wire comes in, goes though the resistor then out to the coil? If this is how you have it, you can connect that wire to the YG wire (leading neg). Don't connect directly to the coil or you will bypass the resistor. The + (BY wire) could then be attached to the brown wire of the 2nd gen coil.

Ok....this is what has been done on his coil. He cut off the wires (ground) at the C terminal on the ignitor and spliced them together. The black wire now goes out the top to a square plastic connector, which will be spliced to the stock ground. The - wire has not been removed at all from the terminal on the resistor, nor the post. I was wondering if I just hooked up the stock + wire to the + side of the 2nd gen coil. If you have a pic you could circle or something it would be greatly appreciated. Just label what hooks up to where.

So what you will want to do is connect the black wire from the 2nd gen coil to the (YG) wire on the stock harness (leading coil, negative terminal). The brown wire from the 2nd gen coil is the coil +. That will go to a switched ignition source (probably best to connect to one of the first gen coil + terminals).

Ok, that is what I thought. Am I coorect in thinking that there will be only 1 wire coming from where the ignitor used to be?
PS...I wish this guy really would have waited till the trasistor boards were ready.

Do you mean where the 2nd gen ignitor used to be? Both wires should come in the top [stock there is red (trigger), black (C terminal/coil -), and brown (coil +)]. The black and brown wires should both go into where the ignitor used to be, then they both go out to the coil.
Basically, the coil should look like this now.
If the brown wire is cut out, just connect the coil power directly to the coil +. The coil negative (from 1st gen ignitor) will connect to the black wire exiting the top. That way the resistor will be in the circuit.

I should be able to put your circuit together here soon. Maybe this weekend. Need to solder mine up tonight and will install probably tomorrow. The following circuits will be built much faster as a lot of the time is getting a good circuit and figuring out how best to layout the components (pretty crowded with the additional IC on the boards that I am using). I think this design will be a keeper, though. I need to see if the local electronics place carries the MC14538. I only have one plus a CD4538 (same chip, different manufacture). I know Radio Shack doesn't carry them.
Maybe if your friend compares his spark to yours, he'll be wishing he didn't cut that ignitor out.
