2GCDFIS on a 79 with hacked wires

Hello everyone,

I have had a half a dozen 2nd Gen's but this is my first 1st Gen. I would like to do the 2gcdfis on my '79. I have read most of the threads on it, and fell I understand it fairly well at this point.

Here is what is confusing me a bit, the previous owner installed a newer style distributor and the wiring is a bit hacked. Could someone tell from the pics if it is all hooked up properly, can I follow the directions as normal to instal the 2GCDFIS.

Thanks
-Josh

it appears to be hooked up properly. does the car run? if so, assume its right. all you have to do to install the 2nd gen coil is to swap the + and - from the stock trailing coil to the FC coil. then run the spark plug wires.

The car runs ok. the main question I had is if the coils had the right wires coming off the distributor, and what are all the resistors for?

Thanks

I highly recommend using a FC fuse box to eliminate the extra wires to the battery. Then use the tutorial to ditch the resistors going to the coil OR just run relay to power both coils (the simpler way-).

The FC fuse box was another thing I was planing, I'll search for the tutorial. I can't stand a cluttered engine bay. Could you point me in the right direction to learn more about the relay setup.

Sorry for the noob questions I looked through the FAQ's and archive but I don't see as much on the SA's

With this mod, all of the ballast resistors go. Here are the links that i used doing this: http://www.geocities.com/inuissus_cendi/2gcdfis.html

If you have any more specific questions, i may be able to help out.
All of the wires coming off the leading coil basically are either taped off and not used or swapped over to the 2nd gen coil. The + wire on the leading coil goes to the + side of the 2nd gen coil, same with the -. The one change is for the tach pickup that was on my leading got swapped over to the trailing. It's been running like a champ since.
