I am upgrading my 81 GS front brakes to 85 GSL-SE front brakes including spindles and bearings.
My question is; Will the caliper mounting brackets/dust shield off the 81 work, or do I need to get a set of GSL-SE mounting brackets?

Im doubting the 81 caliper mounts will work, since the SE has larger rotors.Its also unlikely the 81 dust sheilds will clear the SE brakes,for the same reason.

 

what you need to do the swap is:

84-85 front spindles
GSLSE front backing plates(HAVE to be GSLSE)
GSLSE calipers
GSLSE rotors and pads

that should be about it.
