240sx or FB for DD... i can't decide...

well, to start off i've have FB's all my life, 85 GS was my first car many years ago. right now i drive a pretty nice supra which is highly modified, a/c and all that garbage is removed, it's rocking a total race setup mostly. so it isn't very practical for a daily driver. i had a 84 GS DD for the past few years running on a holley 600 and 13b swap. fun car, but it had mega electrical issues i could never solve... so i've moved onto my GSL-SE which was originally a parts car that turned into a new project.

my options now are to either buy a pretty mint 1990 240sx that just needs all new struts and springs, perhaps wheels to make it look nice. or...

finish off working on the GSL-SE which i have no idea to get a legal title on, it's a albertan car and i dont have the papers for it since it was sold at auction, probably abandoned somewhere, yet totally rust free shell and in awesome shape.

however the SE needs a new rear-end, the EFI si kinda whacky, and i've yet to track down why it wont start all the time. but the motor is strong!. the SE needs suspension and brakes done as well, but i find the mazda much easier to work on, it still has a lot of rust on the suspension/brake aspects itself.

anyway's here's some pictures.

240sx pictures.

now for some of the FB

I'd go for the FB... I don't like how the 240 feels and the interior is just totally cheap... especially those seats... disgusting.

I 100% agree, FB for sure. The 240 interior is by far IMO the worst design ever in any car. The dash is far too plain and the seats are terrible. I cant even see the logic behind the question FB or 240... it to me is a pretty easy choice. FB!!!

I would go for the 240 its a more relaxed daily driver. Yeah the seats look horrible but you can change them. When I was daily driving my 7 it was cool for a while but then I remember how small the car is. Also on long trips the 240 is more comfortable, well to me anyway. I use my 240 as the daily driver.

And in your case it seems that it would be easier to get the 240 then sorting out the paper work on the SE.

ya i used to be a big 240sx fan , but there are soo many 240s around my area now that it just gets annoying seeing them . dont get me wrong they are dependable and you can really make them look super cool . but id personally pic the fb over the 240

its kind of a difficult dillema since i love Rx-7's so much and want to keep this SE, but it just isn't practical and i really need a daily driver since my supra is far too much of a beast for everyday driving.

i'll agree the interior of the 240 is kinda lame, although it doesn't look as dated as the FB's, the FB interior setup is probably my fav. everything is where it should be, seats really hold ya in and its comfurtable enough that i could fall asleep in them (yes i've slept in my FB a few times. hehe)

guess i'll weigh the pro's and con's of each car.

the FB needs new brakes all around, full exhaust, rear-end and i think a new ignition switch or ... something i made a thread about its starting problems awhile ago, its like i have to turn the key on/off a buncha times til i can hear the solenoids clicking under the hood, then it will start, otherwise it just rev's up and shuts back down, even with the fuel pump set to stay on all the time. i still haven't solved this after months of guess work. i pretty much have all the parts from my black FB to fix these problems but being a FB i know more problems will probably come soon enough. i've already done tons of work on that SE.

the 240sx is extremely high mileage at just over 300,000 kilometers, but its belonged to my mom most its life and i know its been kept up very well. the motor is still strong and i can see it lasting over 400 easy enough. plus getting replacement motors for s13's is cheap as hell, since everyone is on the SR20 bandwagon.

all the 240 really needs is new struts/springs, i'm actually driving it now since my mom bought herself a truck. as for performance, god i hate those KA engines, they really are truck motors, feels like the redline should be at 4.5k to 5 instead of 6. i hear with some headers and intake it really opens up the top-end though.

i guess it comes down to my passion for the FB vs having something reliable i can drive everyday and not have to worry about.

Go with the 240sx its prolly better on gas mileage and you wont have to deal with that RED interior. Also you have a better chance of finding parts for cheaper and to me is alot easier driving.... Hehe also if your feeling adventrous you can drop in a RB26DETT and have lots of fun.

Well, from what you just mentioned... I think it's better if you go for the 240 since it's much less work to get it running fine.

Where's the supra pics, lol. I would want to go for the 7, but sounds like the 249 will be easier to get, and better for daily driving.

It just depends on the car make.. i know VW uses the mark 1, II, III, etc on their cars and same with MGB's i think?

and yes tigermack my supra is a auto, but if you had bothered to read the site, its a fully built automatic that will outshift a 5psd any day of the week

"MK1/MKI" ("mark one") is correct, if potentially ambiguous. Many people refer to RX-7 MK1, and you must infer from context whether they mean 78-80, aka "S1", or 78-85, aka "First Generation."

These are not universally enforced definitions. Even Mazda themselves were not strict with the definitions, amongst different dealers, distributors, etc.
