20B in a first gen

Is it possible? Im sure it is. How hard is it to do the swap, does it mount up to the mounts or no? What kind of drivetrain do you recommend...etc etc...I recently got a 90000 a year paying job!!! Woohoo...I want to make the car rock! So if you guys could tell me some probable estimates, problems anyhting to help would be great!

Rob

ummm probably cheaper to buy a 3rd gen...anythings possible but it would be a bitch to get in there then you got all your tranny and drive shaft problems...let me put it this way it would be like putting a v10 into a mini cooper.

http://www.hitman.hm/rx7.htm

its been done.

if your going to dump money at it. strip it down to its frame and get it sandblasted and rustproofed. after than the unibody is going to need some bracing. then a 9 or 12 bolt rear and 4 link. then get the 20bmounted, and find an adator so you can put a t-400 tranny to it.

if you do it yourself you could probley get it done for about 20grand and over a year to complete. or about double the money and in about 3 months..

talk to some rx7 companies out there, im sure they wouldn't mine doing it for you and making some money .

carl.

I know that RX-7 Specialties in Calgary has done it on numerous occasions. They have a magazine article on their wall from the mid-90's that explains how they were extolling the virtues of putting a 20B in a 3rd gen. Their web page is http://www.rotaryengine.ca/, you might want to call them. The shop owns a 1000HP 3rd gen also, so they have the talent. I think there other options available too if you're going all out... Like there are some limousine companies that use different rotary engines, etc. I'm not sure all the details. At any rate talk to Adam if you want a realistic $$$ figure.

By the time you spend 20K+, I don't see a big deal in getting the car accross the continent.

so would it be better to put a 13bt in then? Dont really want to spend 20 grand on it, yes a v10 in a mini would be cool as hell...Id like to see that actually. Im just looking to get a lot more power in my car than a 12a na. 100hp is not doing it for me. Thanks

You will be more than happy with a 13BT. Comparing it to the stock 12A is not possible. Look up Direct Freak and his set-up, it'll make you think twice about it.

But never overlook the potential of the 12at. You can get amazing amounts of power out of a 12a with a kickass streetport and a huge turbo...plus a few other things. This option could end up costing less than a 13bt and the power you can get out of a 12a compared to a 13b is amazing.

The 12A certainly is a powerhouse and I will be running it myself. The poster should definately consider his options before choosing either set-up.

Yep, a ford 8.8" will fit pretty good and will handle some abuse.

i heard that you could get the holley carb, (wich adds 40 hp with open headers) and add a super charger and get some crazy boost with that. Is this true. But not many people try it cause there is one type of super charger and multiple types of turbos. BUt I think super charging would be bad ***.
