1st Post with a question and some pics

Hey all,

I have a 1984 GSL with no engine. I have just pulled apart the engine and I am looing at this, will this work for a while?

I am thinking that the condition of the rotor housings and such are looking really good. (for being used).

I am also wondering, should I pull the rest of the engine apart? Right now I have the rear housing and the first rotor housing off (the rotor of course is out).

I have a felpro re-build kit (all the gaskets sans apex seals, side seals and the likes).

The reason that I am using all this is because I am a poor student that LOVES the rotary engine, RX-7's in general and all that jazz.

I will be moving the body into the garage tomorrow so I will post pics, for now here are shots of the intermediate housing, the rotor housing and the rotor itself.

thanks for any help/advice you can give.

cheers'

stuff looks like it could stand a rebuild but who knows how long it'll last, the intermidiate housing looks like it could have a few grooves, maybe not . might jsut be the pic. but hey i have a spare 84 gsl-se engine sitting in my garage. i'll sel ya any parts for cheep. i'll sell the intermidiate housing for $50. you pay s/h if you don't like it then send it back and i'll give ya your money back. but jsut email me if ya need parts bro or any questions. i'm rebuilding the car as we speek. i just gave it life with a 88 13b. now it needs paint.

running my hands over the surface i can feel nothing really significant.

I will try and get better images of the rotor and the intermediate housing tomorrow, aswell as the body (it's in fair shape).

My other question is shouls i stop here nad just rebuild the back half of the motor or should I go ahead and pull it all apart?

I have very little money and want to get the car on the road asap (i can re-build another one later, i need the car now though). I have a full gasket set (minus the metal rotor seals (apex seal assy and side seals).

also, would using a very fine steel wool ball work to remove oil and other such contaminants on the rotor housing and the intermediary housing (chromed surface) I don't want to scratch anything, this has to last as long as it can.

cheers'

EDIT: the GSL-SE had a 13b in it didn't it? The rotor housing and intermediate housings would be incompatible (from what I know) the 13b being 1.3L and the 12a being 1.2L (and the other diffs like FI vs. Carb)

The intermediate housing should swap fine, but I'm not 100% on that. The intake ports might be in a slightly different location. You'd have to plug the injector holes though.
