1st gen turbo?

I've been seeing a few threads about turbos on a 1st gen latley & have a few questions. First, is anyone turboing the carbureted 1st gen, such as my 84 base model? If, so how and where does the air being forced from the turbo enter into the carb? Also, what turbo does everyone normally use, I could be wrong but I don't think anyone makes a turbo for the 1st gen, is everyone swapping the turbo from the 2nd gen? Just wondering if the power gain is enough to be worth all the time and effort, as sometimes from the threads it seems like it'd be easier to swap in a 13b from a 2nd or 3rd gen that already has working turbo(s)

"First, is anyone turboing the carbureted 1st gen"
Yes, with a modified niki, or hitachi (boost prepped)

"how and where does the air being forced from the turbo enter into the carb?"
you have to buy a "carb hat"

"what turbo does everyone normally use, I could be wrong but I don't think anyone makes a turbo for the 1st gen"

to4e, to4b, or stock hitachi ht18

"is everyone swapping the turbo from the 2nd gen?"
usually = stock hitachi ht18

"Just wondering if the power gain is enough to be worth all the time and effort, as sometimes from the threads it seems like it'd be easier to swap in a 13b from a 2nd or 3rd gen that already has working turbo(s)"

depends upon your cash flow, and what you want from the end product. if the cash is available a direct swap from the fc is the best overall, you will need standalone ecu, fuel pumps, etc, etc.

Cheap(?) is a boost prepped niki carb with a stock ht-18 from the second gen on a bastardized exhasut manifold expect a 30~50 hp boost depending upon supporting mods

It's really all about what you want. Do you want a big powerhouse or something as a street driver to have alot of fun with? There's actually two different set ups you can do this. You can do a blow thru set up which runs the boost through a carb hat down the top of the carb or you can do a draw thru set up which will require a new intake manifold as the boost goes though under the carb and draws the fuel through the carb with lower pressure. A draw thru set up can only be run on lower boost as you cannot intercool it. If you want, you could just use the HT-18 from either the S4 or S5 Second Gen, run off the stock waste gate spring, run it straight to the carb hat without intercooling, use a modified Nikki carb, upgrade the fuel pump, and just run an adequite exhaust and you have a low boost turbo set up. I am going to be running a higher boost set up, about 14 psi, on a stock HT-18 from an S5, bridgeported 12A, boost prepped carb, intercooled, Turbo II transmission, and a GSL rear end. It's all about what you want and how much money you want to spend
