Not too familiar with the 1st gens, but this dude swapped in a J-spec 12a Turbo. Is this pretty common? More pics and details of the car here:

It is common to swap in another RX7's turbo engine, yes, but not from the 12at.

 

Looks very clean. I'm asuming that this isn't your car? I'd hit it!

Nice setup.

Some 12AT's are out there,but they are far from common since they were never sold here in the states.They are especially rare in CA on a streetcar,since its technically not smog legal.....especially with a standalone.
Great looking car,clean and simple with probably,easily twice the power most would expect from a 1st gen.

 

Nah, not my car, but definitely going to vote for it in that contest. Can't let an AE86 beat out a 1st gen rex for 1980s Car of the Decade!
