1st Gen Questions!!!/12A questions

ok,im generally a 13b FC guy,and recently im kinda liking the older rx7's...theyre lighter, and the wide body kits are cool as all hell,,,my question is...what can you do. for a 12a non turbo....like how much power can come out of it with tuning..like i know i could go all out and get periphrial porting and stuff...but like what gains will exhaust ignition, headers and whatnots give me...i want a fast car...i had a friend tell me i should stick with the FC cuz its much better for speed..

so what can i do..and how much is the cost...???(styling/performance)

just wondering thats alll

12a's with large streetports and Weber 48 IDA's are putting out 190-210 rwhp. Most are running SDJ or Racing Beat headers. The racers swear that the stock ignition puts out the most HP.

I'd prefer my 85FB 12A over my 90FC 13B anyday. Properly turbo'ed I choose a FC but then again I'd wish it was in my FB. heheheh

i don't know about a 12a with 190 horsepower non-turbo? can a fc get that high in horsepower? anyways, i would say get a fb and put in a 13b from a 2nd gen, turbo or non-turbo. I feel the same way, i have an 88 gxl, 88 turbo II, 83 gs 12a, and 85 gs 12a, i am using my 83' fb as my main project car at the moment, it'll hopefully get 30+ mpg after I swap in my S4 non-turbo fuel-injected engine.

Headers, tuned intake with custom carby (dellorto, weber, mikuni or modded nikki) and some ignition mods ( DLFDIS or 2G ) should get you to the 150 bhp mark. Any further and you pretty much have to port the 12a because its just not going to flow enough with a carb. A mild street port with the same mods gets you near 200, I think. Someone should verify that because I'm talking out my butt now.

If I was to go the porting route I would more than likely also do 13b swap at the same time. Its about the same work once the engine is coming out and you get even more bang for the buck.

For the motor mounts all you have to do is get a cross member, a front face plate and an oil pan from a Gsl-se and the engine will bolt right in but I am not sure about the transmissin mount.

T G Farrell, you must be confused. Unless you're swapping a 4-port 13b, you get much LESS bang for the buck as far as porting goes.
