Anyone- did your 1st gen come with steel wheels that match the following description?
14" in diameter, 5.5" or 6" wide.
bolt configuration: 4x4.5 or 4x114.3

I'm a 2nd gen guy, and I've heard rumors that some FBs came with wheels like this. My dad is looking for something that matches this description for his Corvair.

The only 1st gen wheels with that bolt pattern are the GSl-Se ones from 84-85. the LE wheels were still the 4x110 pattern.

Doc's right. The GSL-SE came with wheels that match your description. Just for the record, 4 lug 2nd gen's also use that same bolt pattern.

There were no steel wheels offered in the 114.3 pcd. In fact, there was only 1 wheel pattern offered for the SE's, unless there was a non-US pattern that I have never seen.

I wonder if it's a 2nd gen base model wheels. Didn't they come with steel wheels? Or maybe it was the later 626 wheels? I don't know. Isn't Camo Carl our resident expert on wheels?

Only 2nd gen 4 lug wheels I am aware of, are the "Phone dials". I suppose there could have been some steelies used on a few.
Many other brands of cars use the 4 x 114.3 pattern, so steel wheels should be available pretty easily. The offset is the only real issue to consider.

Older Nissan/Datsuns have the same PCD and offset as S3 Rx7 (4x114.3)
RWD 626's had 5.5" or 6" wide 14"s but they were still 4x110

The "phone dials" are 15"s 4x114.3 mostly found on 929's.
I still can't beleive they even released an FC with 4 stud and single pot brakes

The S4 phone dials are 14", I have 10 or 12 of them laying around. The only steel wheel offered on the 2nd gens were some of the space saver spares. There are/were no production steelies for the 2nd gens. This is for the US market only, Mazda did offer different options throughout the world.
