Is a 1st gen with NO factory sunroof rare?

Is a 1st gen with NO factory sunroof rare?

I have a very clean silver 1984 with red interior. Car is from Georgia, I am in Michigan. This car is one of 5 I have in my driveway right now, so I am looking to lean out the collection. Besides being extremely clean the car does not have a factory sunroof, which seems very ideal for a race car conversion....

Is this set-up rare? I have gone though about 10 1st gens and this is the first sunroof-less I have come across. And I can say in all of the pictures I have seen in the forum most/all have factory sunroof...?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I think with the SA its not rare at all, a sunroof was optional for most models. Maybe the FB sunroofs were standard equipment. You'd have to check out a good reference on manufacturing history. I have a couple of books at home that would say but I'm not at home, sorry.

Aren't those SA wheels on that '84?

How much you want for these cars?

my 85 base model didn't have a sun roof, & i hated it. my 83 now does have a sun roof. yes, it is better for a race car conversion, but if the cars super clean, then why hack it up? From what i've heard, sunroof and alloy "+" wheels were the most popular options, so maybe these people just didnt want to deal with leaking? you usually see cars with very few options that dont have a sunroof, but i noticed you have power mirrors. anyway i dont think it will bump your value up much, if at all, but do hang on to it if its your cleanest car.

Thanx for the feedback...

Yeah, those wheels are the set the previous owner liked best... I have 4+ complete sets of the alloy.

I was considering doing a 13BT conversion on it because the body is more rigid....

Not sure on the price for that car, others are not for sale. PM me if you want to chat about it...

Neither the + wheels, nor the sunroof were 'options'. The + wheels came on every non-SE 7 from 81-85, except the LE model. The sunroof was deterimined by the trim level of the car, however there were some dealer installed ones.

Oddly enough, all of this info can be found in the FAQs or it's related links. Who hasn't been doing thier homework?

As far as being rare, they were at the bottom of the trim level and afaik, the are no production numbers that differentiates models. Some feel the sunroof models are stiffer due to the extra re-enforcement in the roof. Either model will handle the extra hp of a 13BT, stiffening comes into play in roadracing more than straight line performance.

My GS has no sunroof. Hence Spec7...

My GSL has a sunroof. Hence road car.

When I go through 7's at the scrapper, GS'es are a tossup, sunroof or no... Not counting aftermarkets, it's actually about 75% without sunroofs. If I counted the aftermarkets, it moves to 25% without sunroofs.

GSL's and higher are always with a sunroof.

My 85 S doesn't have a sunroof. I've seen a few non sunroof cars.

Any S trim car doesn't have a sunroof. Most GS trim level cars don't have one either (although my 83 GS happens to)
As for wheels, as trochoid pointed out 99% of the non SE FB's have the "+" wheels, however some of the S trim cars came with steel wheels if the original owner wanted a pure base model car (as was the case with my 83 S)

Until 1983, the sunroof was optional on GS, and standard in the GSL. By 1984, it was dropped from the GS option list, but was added to the GSL-SE standard equipment list.
The 1983 LE was based on the GS sunroof model, so they all have the sunroof.

To add to what trochoid stated - the fact that the "S" model you have for
sale lacks rear disk brakes makes it even less desriable than any other model.
Especially for any kind of racing.

In '84 the aluminum wheels and the sunroof were packaged together for the GS. When I took delivery of mine I had them replace the aluminum wheels with steel wheels to reduce the cost. I knew I was going to get some aftermarket wheels so saving few bucks was good. Here's my window sticker: http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...7_110_full.jpg

Yeah, agreed. If I kept it I'd put a POSI/Disk rear-end in it... I do that with all my non-disk brake cars...

I'm actually quite happy I don't have a sunroof. If I did, headroom would be painfully constricting when I've got a helmet on. I hate racing with my head at an angle so that it sticks out of the sunroof, or angling my seat back too far.

Actually, if you put in a Glass top, instead of the metal one, you'd easily have another two inches of headroom. Probably more than non-sunroof equipped cars.

Also, using older seats instead of the 84/85 GSL & Up will also give you some more room.
