1st gen drag car?

Hello everyone. Im in the process of building a 79rx7 drag car. Its tubbed, 4-link, 28x11.5 slicks, pinto rack, 2nd gen front strut asemblies, completly gutted, 12 point cage. I removed both bumpers and plan on leaving them off. The rear bumper will be replaced simply enough with thin sheet metal but the front of the car is going to be a little more dificult.
Have any of you permanently removed the bumpers and what was your solution for filling the void where the bumper used to be? Are ther any companies that offer a front spoiler that replaces the stock bumper? My goal is to have this car at 2000 pounds, ready to race. Any suggestions whould be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Nate

im doing sheet metal over the rear. and if your looking for a diff front for the car look try www.rx7mall.com or some other sites that sell body kits or you can use front bummers off of other cars and fab mounts

Im using a NASCAR Buick v6 from the mid 90's and most likely a powerglide trans.
Im going to run the motor normally aspirated with NOS for now but I am piecing enough stuff together to convert over to twin turbos. Im having a lot of fum building this car. I had picked up the Buick motor real cheap and although I dont know much about rx7's, it seemed like the perfect chassis for the v6. I am realy impressed with the quality of the car, compared to the american cars I usually work on.I guess you can only realy see how well they are put together by cutting them appart!
I am the worst body guy in the world so I am dredding tring to fab my own front air dam/bumper. Keep the advise coming and thanks for the replies.

Nate

if you built the rotary you would love it more than a push rod motor look at some videos of a 3 rotor or a 4 rotor

Just look at some videos of directfreaks 13b..... 500+ horsepower if I recall correctly. Or there is always Robert of rotaryshack as well, making 680 rwhp with a 12a..... I would be more proud to say "Yeah, my 1.1 liter just stomped all over you 5 liter (or bigger)."

Also, you're going to catch hella flack here for non rotary motor swaps.

Oh, well regardless, that is tons of power for a 1.3 liter. And extremely fast.

I got the Buick motor for so cheap that I couldnt resist putting it in a car. The rx7 seemed like a good choice, I want it to run in the 7.50 range. Please give me some more input on the bumper situation.

man, dont listen them. ive been a rotor nut going on 16 years and i still would like to put a grand national motor in one of my first gens. i think it would freakin fly and be a little more reliable and have better fuel economy than a fully tweeked rotary. i know b/c of the FD i had. but, i can't seem to make myself quit spending money on these little bastards. so im starting my GSL-SE project here in the next few weeks. after i get out of school, im either gonna build the bridge i have sitting in my shop or sell all the stuff i have for it and build a peripheral port. my friend had one 13 years ago and we delivered pizzas in it at domino's. 30 minutes or less the cool thing was when people would call back up to the store and either be pissed off about it or asking questions like "what the hell kinda car was that guy driving? that thing sounded mean as ****." ahhhh.....the memories from my youth.

In one of my cars I bought it had the rea taken off and cut, and shaped aluminum was fit into the gap.Looks real nice too. I would say for the front why not try going all fiberglass???
