Question 1st gen. car starters

I have a 1984 Rx-7 in excellent condition. I love this car, but had trouble starting the car on several occasions. The starter finally went, and I had it replaced. This solved ALL the starting problems I had experienced, until the (used) starter went 2 weeks later. I replaced that starter with a brand new one. This again solved the starting problem for about 2 months when THAT starter went bad! There is never any warning that the starter is going bad, one day or one time the car will just not start! Am I getting unreliable starters, or could something else on the car be affecting the starter performance?

Sincerely,
Vlad

well if you are going to a parts place like advanced auto or auto zone you are getting rebuilt units and THEY SUCK. I have put 2 starters in my 81 gsl both redone. the 1st 1 lasted 3 weeks the other 1 was still going after 3 years. Now Alt. are my bad thing. I bet on my 81 gsl i swaped the alt. 30-40 times 1 didnt last 5 min. then it made a loud pop and stoped charging. But thats what the "life time warrenty " is for they hate me at advanced auto. I would put on new cables just to make sure and slap in a nother starter, then if it happens again go to MAZDA (grabing ankles) and get a new starter.

Change your 15year old battery cables!

I had an intermittent problem with my starter, and it was the cables.

Seems to be something shorting out your starter. I'd clean and check you connections (cheap and neccessary mod) anyway.

When i had my engine rebuilt they told me that my starter was cranking about 100 - 200 rpm's too slow. The starter was the first thing I replaced in the car when I first bought it in 91. They told me that it would help it start in the cold weather better. WHat do you guys think.
P.S. I have all new cables.
