That's a freakin' sweet deal! The car looks good. Get a Sterling, pick up a used RB exhaust and you'll be rocking.
GS models without sunroofs are the lightest, so you already have an advantage there. Later on if you want to opt for LSD and disc brakes that would help but the car definitely looks like a great starting point, especially for that price.

Also found out it has a RB catback on it already, so theres some money saved there. Next I need to track down the problem with the car/ fuel pump/ filter!

lets see.... its a smaller diameter than stock, its round. there is a "lip" that goes all the way around both ends of the muffler. dual tips, the outside is chrome, inside is a ceramic type material. can is painted black, but if its old it'll just be rust colored. it uses all the factory hangers. there is a gold sticker on top that says made in italy on it.
variations....
there are at least 2 tip styles. the old ones the tip is square cut. the middle ones (90's?) have an angle cut tip. and then the later ones are square again, but have a rolled end.
there are 4 different can styles. the 79-80 which has the flange really close to the muffler body. 81-82 goes over the axle and has a dual inlet. 83-85 goes over the axle and has a single inlet. the 4th style is the "streetport" style its over the axle with a slightly larger muffler inlet diameter. they have discontinued the "stock" 81-82 at this point, but they did make it for 20 or so years

damn nice find for $650. I got my '85 GS (in silver also) for $800 with a massive vacuum leak. I attended my first auto-x this past summer, and it was a riot. I have Tokico Illuminas on the front, Blues in the rear, RB springs and a full RB SP exhaust. The SP exhaust is uncollected all the way back to the muffler, and it has two large, offset (one forward, one more aft) expansion chambers. I'll climb under my FB tomorrow when I go to start it up in storage and get a shot of the exhaust.
The first set of pictures with the FB spinning is me driving (largest cloud of tire smoke FTMFW), and the final two are my room mate driving my FB. You can definitely see the softness of the RB setup in the final couple of pictures, based on the severe lean of the vehicle. In the second to last picture (the low quality point-and-shoot photograph vs. the crisp SLR photographs) you can see that on 185/70R13 all season BFG tires you can still lift the inside tire and spin it. Add in some sticky tires and you're in for frustration. GSL LSD rear end would have possibly put me into second place for the day, but I ended up third in E-Stock, 1/2 second behind second place.

Well, Racing Beat calls that a performance suspension. lol. Nice for tightening up a daytime cruiser, but not nearly enough for high performance driving. I liked it well enough when I was using their stuff, but after trying the Respeed stuff there really is no comparison....

kentetsu, does the front of your car ever bottom out. by the looks of it, it looks like your car is a lot lower than mine. i only have the coilovers upfront w 350lbs springs and eibach rear springs, cut a coil. i drive mine daily and it bottoms out almost everytime i hit a dip, etc

I've never bottomed out. I don't run the car that low on the street, she goes up about 1 1/2 inches for daily driving. But no matter what setting I've run, I haven't had any issues with bottoming out...

If you're making good power, and have the right tires, with a little suspension work you could probably be competetive after you gained some experience. But yeah, picking up something to run in E stock would probably be a more enjoyable and affordable option....

i know i need better tires, i'm actually looking for a lightweight set of wheels i could wrap some r-comp on as my track set.
i'd have to look at the suspension again to see what i've got, i think it's Illuminas on the front and blues on the back, or maybe blues all around...I havn't really looked at the suspension since i bought it, been more concerned with tweaking the engine.

With 280hp in an FB you can be competitive in anything. I'm not sure if the engine swap does it but having a turbo on a non-equipped car puts you in those higher classes. Its alot about the driver. TBH, I'm not sure how much a turbo and that much power is going to help you in AutoX though, but I'm sure you didn't build that car specifically for autoX. Make sure you can get that power to the ground with some good tires.

The second to last photo where it's leaning hard on the right front was *i think* a hard left hand turn after the start straight, close to the top of 2nd gear. It's not that scary, but it did feel like my shocks were a bit too stiff for those springs. Lots of up and down undulation through a couple of different parts of the course. There was one point where I thought I was going to push out because of the suspension's rebound being pretty high. Remember, I'm on 185/70R13 BFG all season radials with a 400 treadwear rating. Hard as a rock, and I still got my RB springs to compress that much.
It's not that scary. As Kentetsu has said, it's a great stock replacement set of springs to renew worn out suspension. It does not give you a punishing ride, yet will give you a fresh set of springs. They came on my old FB, so that's why I have them. If I didn't have these springs and couldn't find a decent set of used ones, i'd be saving for ReSpeed.

If you're free March 8th, my 1st gen should be running at our first points event. Come on out if you want to watch or ride. I should be running re-speed coilovers, rb front sway, no rear sway, LSD, and a half-bridge engine.
