1985 GSL-SE parts car

What would you pay for a 1985 gsl-se, horrible paint job, decent interior w/ leather seats not cracked, 200k on the odometer that doesn't start?

I've found one here and I'm not sure if they price they are asking is low enough for it's condition, they want about $700, I'm thinking of offering abuot $400 for it.

I just bought a 1984/85 GSL-SE parts car for $200. The neat thing about it is that the car can stay at the private junkyard and I can pull the parts off as I get time. I've already taken the good stuff (engine, computer, trans, front spindels, rearend, seats, hood, headlights).

This guy is determined that $595 is a valid price for this because, and I quote, "I've put alot of money into it."

He's going to try to advertise it in the papers now for $595 to see if he can get it to sell. I'm just going to keep offering up $200 cash until it either sells to some poor fool who thinkgs it's a good deal at that price, or he caves and sells it for the $200.

He thouroughly believes he's asking a fair price even though his mechanic is telling him that it's too far off at that price.

doesn't really matter how much work is done if the car doesn't start

I beg to differ.
If I ever found a car with a load of new parts, and I knew that all it would take was an engine or a little work to get it started, I would pay accordingly to the usefull parts on the car.

Lets say I found a car like my old GSL that had about $8000 worth of parts in it (in areas other than the engine)
I dont think that even a blown engine would even stop me from making a reasonable offer. IMO its all about the usefull parts in the car.

If the parts are original however, youd be stupid to pay over $500 for a non running car (unless the interior looks like its never been sat in).
It all depends on how the car has been built/maintained.

It is worth $200 just to the crusher, so $400 would be fair but a bit high for a parts car. What money has he put into it? Brand new RB Exhust worth $700? $600 could be a fair price depending on what it has and what has been done. Last SE I parted I ended up with $1400 out of it and the engine was full of water.

From what I could tell looking over the motor and drive train parked at his mechanic there was no performance anything on it, standard exhaust system, the seats were leather but no cracks, but for the most part, it's definately got usage on it, nothing is even close to non-worn condition.

I'll keep an eye out to see if it sells I guess, but he may have a hard time with it.
