1984 rx7 New Engine Wont start need help

Ok, I just finished rebuilding a 1990 high comp n/a motor. Its got a street port and an edelbrock carb setup. Its in a 1984 mazda rx7 gsl it uses the old distributer setup.

Ok, the engine has spark and fuel and I comp tested it and its between 115-120 on all faces front and rear. It cranks over but it doesnt even try and start even with starter fluid. I didnt set the timing after reinstalling it would that stop the motor from starting? Or do you think it could be something else.

The plugs have got wet then I cleaned them and put them back in and then they got wet again. But they do have spark. There wet with fuel not oil or coolant by the way.

He did mention that the timing has not been set yet....I would do that to remove that from the list of possible problems.

Also check that your bowls are not over filled. I just put in a new motor and it was having the same problem and it ended up that my floats had been moved a little in the process of removing and reinstalling them.

If you have a FPR then check to make sure your fuel pressure is between 5-6psi

Agreed with checking the timing. But if you lined up the front pulley mark with your dizzy gear mark then you should at least be close enough to start the engine. Followed by a timing light later.

Where in jersey are you?

adjust the float or clean the needle and seat for debris and lower the fuel pressure. you know how to "de-flood" a rotary right????
