1984 Rx7 GSL SE Cold Air intake

Hey, i have a 1984 RX7 GSL SE. I am curious as to where i can get a cold air intake from. There are some for sale online but they are all for a second generation. Would those second gen cold air intakes work on my first generation SE?
Thanks,
Nathan

Agreed.

Though if you want, Billy at re-speed sells a pass through to route your filter to in front of your radiator..

it won't gain you much unless you have engine mods. I saw no performance or MPG improvement when i added some forced "ram air" type tubing - on a stock GSL-SE.

Hmmmm, well i have a k & n filter already. Is there anything else i can do to the intake that is moderate and not overboard?
Thanks,
Nathan

There's not much to change if you have already put in a K&N panel filter.

You could threaten it with violence, and maybe if it gets scared it'll perform better, but other than that not really much that can be improved without involved modifications.

If you want performance, your better bet is the exhaust.

ditto, potential hiding in exhaust! Get the dual streetport from racingbeat, makes a big difference especially in midrange.

take a look at this.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/90-97...Q5fAccessories

i bought this and it fit on my se. Its a straight bolt on just use a little gasket maker. works perfect on mine. I would recommend buying a k&n recharge kit and use the oil on the filter.

Wouldn't that be less efficient that the factory intake?

but it isn't necessarily a CAI, FWIW i have one of those.. no hp gains, got it because it was inexpensive, and my friend put it in my car... it also sounds nicer than the stock box. plus my old filter had holes in it yipes

Stock intake is a sealed system that draws in denser, cooler air, while having a cone filter like that just exposed under the hood would suck in warmer air - but maybe in larger volume, so it might even out in the end. All you gain is looks and sound, though if that's what you're after, then I suppose it works out fine.

Do you really want to trust the filtering of a 10$ filter? Really?

you dont have to trust it. The reason i bought that was for the adapter you can fit anything thing on it, so swapping out for a new filter is as easy as undoing one screw

Hmm thanks everyone for the input, the k & n i baught was around 50$ and it was the correct size and everything for the stock air filter box. I Think ill leave it as it is, i did put a header on and redo the whole exaust fairly recentally and the guy who did it knew alot about V8's so im pretty sure he put on the wrong exaust. It is very loud and sounds old and angry even though its a brand new engine. How much of an improvment could i get from changing it to something that is more practicle? or is my problem in the muffler?
Thanks,
Nathan
