If starts and runs ok at higher rpms (above 1500) then it is most likely a vacuum leak. Look over all the vacuum lines especially the big one one the right rear under the carb. and above the exhaust. with the engine running spray carb. cleaner on all the vac. hoses. When you hear the engine speed up you have found the leak.

Good Luck!

If you just hold the accelerator down without pumping does it die. Or, if you hold the choke out will that keep it running. Does it run if you hold the rpms around 2000? If any of those are true it is 99% likely that it is a vacuum leak (been there and done that personally). If however the only way you can keep it running is by constatly pushing the accel. in and out (it dies if the accel is left in any one position) then you probably have carb. troubles and it is time for a carb. rebuild. Make sure you also check out your fuel pump and fuel filter. Not likely the problem but it doesn't hurt to check the simple stuff first.

www.mazdatrix.com Has all the good stuff. Fun to read. I order a lot of stuff because my billing and shipping info is on file and it gets here rapidly.

Google Victoria British.
